The thinner the stone is, the more translucent it is. Well that’s obvious right? Well the thinner it is, the more likely it is to change color as well! The one that is thicker (2cm) looks darker and more orange. And the thinner one lets more light shine through, and is way more yellow! We were trying to match 1cm & 2cm slabs. They looked pretyy close without light. But when you backlit them, they didn’t match. So we had to double up on the 1cm and it turned out matching more than it would with a single slab. Here are some photos. The vein cut one is the 1cm slab, and the cross-cut (cloudy) one is the 2cm. Anyway, we had share. Onyx is so beautiful and fun, we love talking about it 🙂 The slabs shown are a Honey onyx that is vein cut. Our stone gallery is in Kenmore, Washington state. Just North of downtown Seattle.
