Onyx is formed in deep caverns possibly as a Stalactite formation collectively known as a dripstone. Over a period of time, space and its overall dependence and presence of air it continues to “drip” down accumulating its icicle structure through calcification born out of cold mineral springs. On the other end of the spectrum there are Stalagmites which are formed while on the ground and is created by the same process but accrete into a pillar formation…this amazing process is a love story of stone where the Stalactites meets the Stalagmites and fuse together in this eternal bond that we call stone or rather in this case Onyx.
